About Pride Wrestling

Western Pennsylvania and especially Alle-Kiski Valley wrestlers have a year-round championship training option thanks to Doug Joseph.  "The name says it all," Joseph said. "All of our area wrestlers take pride in what they do out on the mat. They're committed and passionate about their sport."

The Joseph family has been involved in area wrestling for decades. Doug's father, Steven, has assisted with Kiski Area wrestling for more than 20 years. His brother, also named Steven, coached wrestling at Valley High School, and Doug is a former Kiski Area and NCAA wrestling champion. He was also Summit Academy's first wrestling coach.  Joseph wants to do for the community what so many people have done for him over the years. When he was a child, his father traveled all over Western Pennsylvania taking him to different wrestling clubs to develop his skills.  He studied under successful Kiski Area coach Chuck Tursky and trained with wrestler Kurt Angle at Duquesne University.

During Doug's college career, which included wrestling for Duquesne, Syracuse and Gannon, Joseph went to the NCAA national wrestling tournament each year. Persistance and dedication paid off.  He went 4-0 in the NCAA Finals and took home the NCAA Division II title his senior year at Gannon.

Joseph's passion for the sport and love of working with children inspired him to open his own wrestling club. There are kids from all over that come to Pride.  Kids from Kiski Area, Valley, Burrell, Highlands, Pine Richland, Greensburg Salem and Kittanning all become Pride Wrestlers when they step into the practice room.  Coach Joseph does not care where his wrestlers call "home".  He is here to help them succeed.  Wrestling is such an emotional and passionate sport.  Someone can look in your face when you're out there on the mat, and they can tell if you're quitting or if you really want it. If the kids are out there and going to do it, then he is going to be there for them.

Joseph said the Alle-Kiski Valley has a reputation in the state of Pennsylvania for developing good wrestlers. His goal is to take that one step further. There are a lot of tough kids in this area.  They make great wrestlers. Coach Joseph's goal is to make the A-K Valley the hottest spot for wrestling in the country.
